The Local Government Act 2002 requires that a Long Term Plan includes certain key policy statements. These policies are the framework for Council's planning, decision-making and accountability processes.

Horowhenua District Council's Remission of Rates on Māori Freehold Land Policy is contained in its Long Term Plan 2021-2041 (LTP) as one of its key policy statements.

This policy explains the conditions and criteria under which the Council might consider it appropriate to provide rates relief in respect of Māori freehold land. The policy allows for remissions where the land is unoccupied and non-income producing and where a temporary remission would assist in the economic development of the land.

This policy is available for downloading below as a separate document.
