Have your say – how are we doing?
We love living in Horowhenua and we're looking for new ways to make newcomers to Horowhenua feel welcome.
Welcoming Communities is an initiative which brings together councils and communities to make places we love more welcoming for everyone. It's a nationwide programme led by Immigration New Zealand in partnership with the Office of Ethnic Communities and the Human Rights Commission.
We believe that communities are happier, healthier and more productive when newcomers are welcomed by the community and enjoy better social outcomes, cohesion, and economic growth.
The initiative includes an outcome-based accreditation framework known as the Welcoming Standard and aims to create actively inclusive communities focusing on migrants, former refugees and international students.
