Council’s Long Term Plan is one of our key strategic documents. It sets out our priorities for the next 20 years - what we will do, how much it will cost and how we will fund it.

This includes services, facilities and projects for wastewater, water supply, rubbish and recycling and roading, as well as our Aquatic centres, community centres, and parks and reserves. It also includes the work Council does in planning for future growth areas, and supporting community capacity building and grants.

It's reviewed every three years to make sure it's still relevant and accurate. We're currently undertaking this process.

Priorities

Our communities are growing as more and more people discover how unique and inviting they are. This growth brings many opportunities, as well as a need to upgrade facilities and services. There needs to be decisions made about what projects Council should prioritise.

In October 2020 we asked for your help to decide what these priorities should be.

To inform our planning we asked two questions in our Long Term Plan 2021-2041 survey:

  1. Our district is growing, Council needs to decide where best to invest. What are your top priorities for where Council should focus investment?
  2. How much of a rate increase would you be willing to have for improvements to these activities?

Your feedback will be used to help us decide what the key priorities are for the community.

There'll be another chance to have your say in March / April 2021. This is when Council formally consults on the significant choices for our district, as well as our plan for infrastructure delivery and how we intend on managing our finances.

What is the Long Term Plan (LTP)?

Council’s Long Term Plan is one of our key strategic documents.

It sets out our priorities for the next 20 years, including what we will do, how much it will cost and how we will fund it.

This includes services, facilities and projects for wastewater, water supply, rubbish and recycling and roading, as well as our aquatic centres, community centres, and parks and reserves. It also includes the work we do to plan for future growth areas, and supporting community capacity building and grants.

We review the LTP every three years to make sure it is still relevant and accurate.

Why was there a survey and not a consultation?

There are two parts to our public engagement on the LTP: the survey and formal community consultation.

The survey was carried out in October 2020. This was your chance to help influence the LTP early in the process, before the plan has been drafted. In this way, we can ensure the community’s voice helps to shape the LTP right from the beginning and determine the key issues we ask you about during formal community consultation.

The formal community consultation phase will take place in March and April 2021, after we’ve created a draft proposal. The formal consultation period will give you a chance to provide your views on the key topics for our district.

Based on your feedback during the formal community consultation, we’ll refine the LTP before it is adopted.

When did the survey close?

The survey closed at 8am on 19 October 2020.

What will you do with my contribution?

We'll use the information you provide to create the 2021-2041 Long Term Plan. Next year, after we’ve created a plan, we'll come back to you to ask about key topics.

What happens next?

After the survey closes we’ll use your feedback to develop the Long Term Plan.

In March and April next year, there will be a formal community consultation, focusing on the key topics or the LTP. This is your opportunity to look at our proposed Plan and provide feedback.

Between April and June next year, we’ll use the feedback you give us during the formal community consultation to refine the Long Term Plan.

We expect to finalise and adopt the Long Term Plan in June 2021.

When will the plan be finalised?

The Long Term Plan will be finalised in June 2021.
