Community Directory Portal

The Community Directory Online Portal provides information about community organisations, groups, clubs, services, associations, facilities, and businesses based in the Horowhenua District.

You can search for a specific listing or browse categories to find relevant organisations and services in your neighbourhood. Due to the dual nature of the Directory, listings can be filtered by the category (Business or Community Directory).

 

 

Help

Login / Sign up to Community Directory portal

If you don't already have an account, you'll be able to create one. The system will ask for your name and email address and then send you a confirmation email with a verfication code, to ensure security, check your spam / junk folder sometimes it ends up in there.

Confirm your account, create a password and then click the Create account button and you now will be able to create your event listing or Business or Community listing.

Community groups and businesses are encouraged to use our Community Directory Portal to create a directory listing. 

Eligible Listings

Community Directory

To be included in the Community Directory, your group must be a community-based group or not-for-profit organisation based in the Horowhenua District, or a service provider that residents would reasonably expect to find in this type of directory.

Business Directory

To be included in the Business Directory, your organisation must be located or operate in the Horowhenua District. 

Please note

  • Listings promoting or linked to political parties and private enterprise will not be included. 
  • Council has the right to determine which lisitings will be approved. We may decline any listings submitted containing content that we determine in our sole discretion are unlawful, offensive, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable or violates any party’s intellectual property or our Terms & Conditions.
  • You may only submit one entry for your organisation.
  • You may list your organisation under either 'Business Directory' or 'Community Directory' not both.
  • It is your responsibility to maintain your community or business directory listing to ensure your details remain up-to-date. Council accepts no responsibility or liability for any errors and requires that community and business organisations regularly check their listing for errors.

Getting Started

  1. Create a free account and click "Submit."
  2. Enter the code we emailed you to verify your email address.
  3. Set your password.
  4. Fill out your contact details in case we need to reach you about your event (this information will not be displayed on our site).
  5. Review our Terms and Conditions.
  6. Submit your listing.

We will review your submission and send you an email to inform you whether it has been approved or if we require any additional information. Minor changes may be made to your event for formatting or to correct any typos before approval.

Tips and tricks

  • We recommend that your group or organization uses a generic email address. This is important because it ensures that when committee members or key personnel change, the email address and account login remain current.
  • Emails we send to you will be auto-generated and will come from noreply@horowhenua.govt.nz. Please add this address to your 'safe sender' list, as some email clients have strict spam filters that may direct our correspondence to your junk mail folder.

Reviewing your listing(s)

When you submit your listing, we will review it before it gets published. We’ll take a look at it and send you an email once it has been approved or if we need any additional information.

Additionally, we will send a review notification to your email address every 12 months for each of your listings. Upon receiving this notification, please log into your account to ensure that all of your listing details are up to date.

Community groups and businesses are encouraged to use our Community Directory Portal to promote their events on our websites.

A community event is defined as a happening that brings people together to celebrate, raise funds and to enjoy. The event must be:

  • The event need be connected with a local community group or business in the Horowhenua District 
  • The Community Directory is a listing of non-profit, community-based organisations, services and facilities operating in the Horowhenua district Local Government Area.
  • made available to the community in general, not just members of clubs, etc.

Please note

The dimensions of the submitted image must be W600px x H400px and all images submitted need to belong to the Organisation/Business/event, be copyright free or have permission from the creator to use.     • If you do not submit or have an image for your listing, we will provide a generic image for you.
  • Some events may be advertised in the What's on Hororwhenua which appears in the local paper.
  • Please submit details of your event at least five working days prior to the event day, otherwise it may not be published in time.

To make your listing stand out you will need a image.  

The ideal image specs are 600 pixels wide by 400 pixels high, and should be approx. 200kb. If the image you supply doesn’t fit these dimensions, it will be cropped down to fit. This is the size of the listing images you can see all through the site.  

All images submitted need to belong to the Organisation/Business/event, be copyright free or have permission from the creator to use. If you don't already have an image you can download a free Royalty Free image from Pixabay.com

If you do not submit or have an image for your listing, we will provide a generic image for you.

What is Community Directory Portal?

Community Directory Portal is an online portal where you can create and manage business listings, community listings and events on our websites.

How it works

There's no hardware or software installation required. Simply register and start listing your listings:

  • Go to the Home dashboard pick if you want to create a Community, Business or Event listing 
  • Fill in the form, with Titles, decriptions and a image or logo
  • Submit it, we'll take a look at it and send you an email once it's been approved or if we need any additional info.

How up to date is the informaion?

Every effort has been taken by both the Horowhenua District Council and the listing owners to ensure information contained in the listings are accurate and up to date, however as community information changes regularly, details may change. Please contact organisers directly for updates or more information.

Can I list my event?

Yes, if your event is connected with a local community group or business and happening in the Horowhenua District you can list . 

Another way you can promote the event is by creating a listing on EventFinda. Not only will is it a great way to advertise the event, we are able to have it show on our new horowhenuanz.co.nz;website.
