Nothing But Good Times
More than 250 pairs of skates are not enough to keep up with the mania sweeping through the town's youth when doors open at the Events Centre on Friday nights.
Every week Nothing But Wheels cranks into action with a team of dedicated volunteers hiring out skates or allowing entry to up to 450 young people and some parents on any given night.
NBW Operations Manager Benita Martin says the skating revival has been growing since the doors opened less than four months ago and at $5.00 a head for entry and skate hire, it is one of the most affordable ways for families to have fun. People with their own skates are charged a $3.00 entry fee.
Ms Martin says the town hasn't seen anything like it for more than a decade when youth used to head to Skatetown in Exeter Street.

Recycling Message Not Wasted on Students
New entrant and junior students from Levin School spent some time at the Bath Street recycling station learning about how to best use the service.
About 60 students and 10 support staff walked from the school in Tiro Tiro Road to the recycle centre carrying an assortment of things that needing to be disposed of.
The site visit was inspired by Waste Minimisation Officer Sandra Eckert of Environment Resource Recovery Sustainable Trust (ERRST).
Ms Eckert travels around schools in the Horowhenua District teaching children how to minimise household waste, prepare worm farms, compost and other activities that help achieve waste minimisation goals.

Driver Behaviour Target of Intersection Campaign
Young males, who are over-represented in crash statistics, are the target of a new intersections project running in Levin, Palmerston North, Wanganui and Feilding.
Billboards have been put up throughout the region as part of the national “Spin/Don’t spin – It’s your call” campaign urging 15 to 25-year-old males to be aware of driving behaviour at intersections.
Roadsafe Central co-ordinator Mary Mitchell says there were more than 550 intersection crashes across Horowhenua, Manawatu and Wanganui areas last year, including five causing deaths.
“Statistics reveal that 60 percent of the at-fault drivers in intersection crashes last year were males aged between 15 and 24.”
