Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō Visitor Information Centre is your local hub for visitor information, travel assistance and local knowledge in the Horowhenua District. Shannon Railway Museum & Visitor Centre
Location: Plimmer Terrace (opposite the shops), Shannon
The historic Shannon Railway Station now operates as a Museum and Visitor Centre. It's manned entirely by a team of local volunteers, managed by the Shannon Progressive Association and supported by Horowhenua District Council.
Built in 1893, the Station is the only one of its kind still open for the public to view and we're committed to its preservation whilst passionate about promoting Shannon and the wider Horowhenua to visitors both local national and international.
Come on in for a peek back into the history of Shannon and surrounds, or for a chat and cuppa with one of our friendly team.

Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom Visitor Information Centre (Foxton)

Located within Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom, next to Foxton’s iconic windmill De Molen, the Visitor Information Centre is the perfect place to start your visit to the Horowhenua. Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom is home to museums and exhibitions that share the stories of Te Awahou Foxton, and the people who have connections here.
Our friendly team provides local visitor information, along with booking services for bus, ferry and train travel. We can also provide information on local events, attractions and activities, and assist with a range of travel enquiries to help you make the most of your visit.
Foxton has something for everyone - from the beautiful Foxton Beach and the internationally recognised Manawatū Estuary, to great cafés, boutique shopping, water-based recreation, the Flax Stripper Museum, MAVtech, and Whare Manaaki, where you can watch Māori artists at work or try your hand at flax weaving.
