Target Reserve
Target Reserve is a large area of reserve land off State Highway 1 (SH1). It is home to the Foxton Racing Club, Foxton Golf Club, Horowhenua Paintball Club and the Levin Pistol Club. These clubs are private, so please contact the clubs directly for any enquiries about their facilities and activities.
High winds and tree safety
Following forestry works to clear storm-damaged trees, some trees remaining in the reserve may be less resilient to high winds. For your safety, please stay out of the reserve during periods of high winds.
Foxton mountain bike trails
The Foxton mountain bike trails are part of the Manawatū Mountain Bike Club (MMBC) trail network. The sand-based, all-weather trails are the newest in the MMBC family and were developed by MMBC volunteers from 2024. The trails currently provide around six kilometres of trails, plus a small “mites” course for the littlest riders.
The trails are mainly single-track, with some forest roads and 4WD tracks. Family-friendly, the trails are sheltered by mature pine trees and ride well in the winter when other trails may be wet and slippery.
The trails are used for MMBC events, including the Winter Race Series, the Foxton Fizzler team relay and Frocks on Shocks, a women’s-only relay race.
MMBC has permission from Horowhenua District Council to build and maintain trails at Target Reserve. More trails are planned and being built. If you would like to help out with trail building, contact MMBC. Please don't build trails on your own.
A trail map and further information are available on the MMBC website.
The trails are free to ride and open to mountain bike riders.
