Geordie Parrant (Art and Culture)

Geordie-Parrant-December-2015

Geordie Parrant is fast becoming a local celebrity thanks to significant contributions to regional music and performing arts.

As a Rockquest finalist in 2014 Geordie was the winner of the people’s choice award. In 2014 and 2015 Geordie took lead roles in the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare festival and was awarded best male characterisation in senior drama 2014.

Geordie is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of ‘Melodies of the Disturbed’, a high school metal band that in 12 short months has played 50 shows across both the Wellington and Manawatu regions and were regional finalists in Battle of the Bands 2015.

Geordie is not only a talented musician but an astute coordinator and manager within the music scene. This year he was chairperson of the Horowhenua ‘Listen to the Music’ project steering group, coordinating youth development workshops and three youth concerts in Foxton, Shannon and Levin. He was also the face of the 2015 Horowhenua Youth Week video produced by Te Takere.

On the local youth radio station, ‘Fusion FM’ Geordie volunteers his time as a co-host and musical commentator for ‘The Metal hour’ with band-mate Joshua Anderson, whom he also works with to run local music events through an organisation called Kompact Entertainment.

A rising rockstar in the figurative and literal sense at age 16 Geordie has no doubt saved the best for his encore!
