#Arohatōmahi in Action

We love our work and know that our work matters. That is why we do what we say we will do, and apply energy and enthusiasm across our mahi.

Horowhenua District Council wants to be a place where people enjoy coming to work and feel supported to do their best. Getting that right for our own kaimahi matters, because it shapes the service our community receives every day.

In April 2026, kaimahi across the Council were invited to take part in our Kaimahi Engagement Survey. It asks how people feel about leadership, workplace culture, how connected they are to what we are here to do, and how well we are set up to deliver. Each question is a positive statement, and people are asked how strongly they agree with it.

We invited 200 kaimahi to take part and 179 completed the survey, a participation rate of 89.5%. Across all questions, the average score was 68.4%.

The strongest results are about people’s own teams. Kaimahi told us they understand how their work affects those around them, that their leaders act in line with our values, that their managers make it safe to make mistakes while trying to improve, and that they feel comfortable being themselves at work.
