Connor-Mitchell-December-2015

Connor is focussed competitor and outstanding sporting achiever. Connor receives his second consecutive Youth Excellence award tonight.

Connor has undertaken a Taekwon-do Umpires and Instructors course this year, and will grading for his black belt in December. As a member of the Salton Taekwondo Academy for six years, Connor has an impressive record of achievement with podium finishes at regional and national competitions.

This year Connor competed at the New Zealand Taekwon-do National Championships, receiving a gold medal for Team Patterns and Bronze’s for team and individual sparring. At only age 14, Connor is currently ranked 2nd in the Under 18’s category, taking home a gold and silver finish at the August 2015 event.

Although a disciplined specialist in Taekwon-do, Connor is also the 2015 Waiopehu College Junior Athletics Champion and Cross Country Champion, is a member of the student Council and takes part in the Iridium extension programme. Despite his age, Connor has twice been nominated for Dux Ludorum (the highest sporting award) at Waiopehu College.

It is clear that Connor will continue to raise the bar as he looks forward to the opportunity to represent New Zealand as a black belt in 2016 at the Taekwon-do World Cup in Budapest.
