Colleen-Hanratty-December-2015

Civil Defence is one of those things most people just don’t think about till disaster strikes and then it gets urgent. That’s when you need people with the right knowledge and training to get things sorted.

Our local civil defence volunteers are a special bunch - always having to be prepared -so its great to acknowledge Colleen Hanratty with a certificate of recognition for her work in civil defence since 1983 - that's 32 years of service.

Colleen started with the Civil Defence HQ team based in the old Borough Council building in Bath St - now the New World carpark - and she’s taken part in many C.D. exercises and courses over the years.

Thanks to her shorthand skills Colleen has been the Minute Secretary for all Civil Defence committee meetings and continues to do that now that the new Act of 2002  has re-designated civil defence as Emergency Management. "I’m told that it wouldn’t be a proper committee meeting without Colleen’s fantastic home baking." Colleen has always been recognised as someone who just gets on and does ‘stuff’ and we are all indebted to her.
