Why aren’t rates increases in line with inflation?

Inflation forms part of the rates increase we're facing. For example, if inflation resulted in a cost increase of $500,000 this means Council needs to be collecting from the ratepayers through rates revenue an additional $500,000. This equates to approximately a 0.95% rates increase.
