Foxton has a new spot for coffee and foodie lovers. Robert Harris Café has officially opened on Wednesday 10 September at Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom, bringing fresh flavour and a warm welcome into this community hub.
Run by Foxton locals Veronique Read and Vinnie Rodie, the café is their second venture after opening Robert Harris on SH1 last year. Their expansion into Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom adds vibrancy to the space, alongside the galleries, museums, and library which already make it a chosen destination of choice within the region.
Mark Hammond, Community Facilities and Services Manager, says the café is a fantastic addition. “The café will bring a fresh buzz to the space, serving up great coffee, delicious treats, and warm hospitality. It’s fantastic to see strong local investment breathing new life into our much-loved community hub.”
He believes the new café is about more than just coffee. “It’s a place for people to meet, connect, and feel part of the community. Having Robert Harris here strengthens Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom as a welcoming destination for locals and visitors alike.”
Hammond says the opening reflects Foxton’s momentum. “Seeing local business owners expand and invest here is a real boost for the town. It shows confidence in Foxton’s growth and the pride people have in building something lasting for the community.”
“We’re so excited to be working with Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom – a vibrant and welcoming space at the heart of the Foxton community. We chose this location because it’s full of potential to bring people together. With the heart and roots of Foxton’s history all around us and with great coffee and food on offer, we can’t wait to be part of the energy and creativity that makes this place so special,” say Veronique Read and Vinnie Rodie, owners of Robert Harris.
The café is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 2.30pm. Whether you’re chasing the perfect flat white, craving a cozy spot to catch up with friends, or needing a caffeine fix before finding your latest read in the library, we’ve got you covered. They also offer catering for meetings and events.
Robert Harris Foxton is already getting noticed, with the team named finalists in the 2025 Electra Business Awards. It’s another sign of the pride and hard work behind this local success story.
With the addition of Robert Harris, Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom now offers even more reasons to visit – a place where culture, creativity, community, and now coffee come together in the heart of Foxton. Pop in, say hi and grab a coffee to support the new café.
