The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is leading New Zealand's response to H5 bird flu (H5N1). You can help protect our native birdlife and local poultry by knowing what to do. If you see three or more sick or dead wild birds together, please don't touch or move them. Report them to MPI and follow the latest advice.

After a fire broke out at the Bledisloe Street property this evening, Fire and Emergency Services personnel spent a significant amount of time extinguishing the blaze.
Emergency services were then able to enter the property and located the man alive.
He is currently being checked over by Ambulance staff and will be transported to hospital for further treatment.
The man’s dog was also found alive and is being cared for.
There is still work to be done at the property to ascertain whether there are any items in the house which pose an ongoing risk.
Until that work has been completed, cordons will remain in place and members of the public should continue to avoid the area.
Further updates will be provided as more information comes available.
