Horowhenua District Council’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is prepared and ready to activate if needed, as MetService has issued Orange Warnings for heavy rain, strong winds, and heavy swells across the region on Thursday 23 October.

Forecasts show up to 120mm of rain in the Tararua Range, gusts up to 120 km/h in exposed areas in Horowhenua, and combined swells of up to 4.5 metres along the coast.

Council’s Emergency Management team is monitoring the situation closely and will activate the EOC if conditions escalate or impacts are reported.

“We’re asking residents to take a few simple steps now: clear drains and gutters, secure outdoor items, and avoid low-lying areas or unnecessary travel during heavy rain or strong winds,” said Brent Harvey – Emergency Management Controller.

Residents are encouraged to stay up to date via MetService, Horowhenua District Council’s Facebook page, and Emergency Management Manawatū-Whanganui channels.
