Council Expo 2025: Discover How Council Works for You
Published on November 12, 2025
Ever wondered what really happens behind the scenes at Council?
We all know about things like roads, recycling and rubbish collection, but there’s a lot more that goes into keeping Horowhenua running. From the water we drink to the parks we enjoy, the libraries we visit and the community facilities we use every day, Council plays a leading part in it all.
The Horowhenua District Council Expo, Enabling What Matters, will be held at Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō on Wednesday 19 November from 10am to 2pm. It’s a great chance to find out more about what your Council does and meet the team who help make it happen and see how everything fits together.
Mayor Bernie Wanden says, “Most people see the end results, like a new playground, a road to drive on or water flowing when you turn on the tap, but there’s a lot of teamwork and dedication behind it. This Expo is about helping our community understand how Council works and how we’re all part of making Horowhenua a great place to live, work and play.”
At the Expo, you’ll get a hands-on experience and see how teams across Council work together, looking after roads, water and wastewater, parks and cemeteries, libraries, community facilities, customer services, environmental care, emergency management and much more, all helping keep our district safe, connected and thriving.
