The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is leading New Zealand's response to H5 bird flu (H5N1). You can help protect our native birdlife and local poultry by knowing what to do. If you see three or more sick or dead wild birds together, please don't touch or move them. Report them to MPI and follow the latest advice.

An old plantation forest with walking and mountain biking tracks, trails through the rear dunes and open grassed areas. A short walk away from the beach. A great place to spend the day with the kids - don't forget the bikes, cricket set and picnic lunch!
In 2025 Horowhenua District Council agreed to give equestrian groups access to Cousins Avenue Reserve. They will enter through the reserve at the western end of the park (the carpark end of Cousins Avenue West). They may also use the open space adjacent to the gravel carpark to park horse floats.
