The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is leading New Zealand's response to H5 bird flu (H5N1). You can help protect our native birdlife and local poultry by knowing what to do. If you see three or more sick or dead wild birds together, please don't touch or move them. Report them to MPI and follow the latest advice.

Waikawa News aims to keep the Waikawa Beach community informed with relevant, accurate and factual information. New items are added as they occur — available on the website, by email or in an RSS feed. A monthly newsletter provides a round-up.
A subsection of the website, Wow Waikawa!, has information about the local environment — read about the 57 different birds that visit Waikawa Beach during the year, including the highly endangered Bittern for example, or track what happens when vehicles drive on beaches.
The site is created and updated by Miraz Jordan, a resident of Waikawa Beach since December 2015.
