Are you passionate about turning data into meaningful insights? Join the Council's Capability and Transformation Group as a Data Engineer and help shape better decision-making across our organisation.
In this role, you will work closely with teams across the Council to understand their information needs and deliver reliable, secure, and scalable data solutions. You will develop and maintain data models, reporting, and Power BI dashboards that help stakeholders gain valuable insights and make informed decisions.
You will play a key role in managing and enhancing our Power BI environment, ensuring data is accurate, accessible, and well governed. You will also contribute to digital projects by supporting data integrations, collaborating with vendors and subject matter experts, and helping ensure data and analytics solutions are successfully delivered.
This is an opportunity to combine technical expertise with stakeholder engagement, working on projects that support Council services and deliver positive outcomes for our community.
He kōrero mōu – About You
You are a collaborative and detail-oriented data professional who enjoys turning business requirements into practical data solutions. You can build strong relationships with stakeholders, communicate technical concepts in plain language, and balance business needs with technical realities.
To be successful in this role, you will bring experience in:
- Power BI and Business Intelligence – Extensive experience developing and maintaining Power BI reports, dashboards, datasets, and workspaces, with a strong focus on delivering meaningful insights and ensuring appropriate security and access controls.
- Data modelling and SQL development – creating and maintaining data models, data transformations, and SQL queries that support accurate, reliable, and scalable reporting and analytics.
- Stakeholder engagement and solution delivery – working with business teams, subject matter experts, and vendors to understand requirements, identify opportunities for improvement, and deliver data and analytics solutions that meet organisational needs.
- Data integration and governance – supporting data integrations, maintaining data quality, and ensuring data is managed securely and in line with privacy and governance requirements.
A relevant qualification or equivalent practical experience is highly desirable. Experience working within local government or the public sector would be an advantage, as would a strong understanding of data security, privacy obligations, and modern analytics platforms.

Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid New Zealand work visa.
