Paretao, Seaview Gardens, Foxton

An historic, elevated garden at the south end of Foxton’s Main Street, with walkways up to the landmark working water tower that is lit up at night time.

The park's original name is Paretao - a Ngāti Tūranga kainga (village). In colonial times it was known as ‘Ferry Hill’ as the Ferry crossed the Manawatū River to the west. The ferry enabled travelers and the Wellington-Whanganui stage coach to cross the river to Foxton after travelling up the coast.

The water tower was constructed in 1923 and still provides pressured water distribution for Foxton. The park boasts a viewing platform and seats which provide uninterrupted views north up the Foxton Main Street and west out to the Manawatū Estuary. There are lime walkways and bank plantings throughout the park.
