Council is getting started on planning the Long Term Plan (LTP), and we want to check in and hear from you about what you think should be included.

We're keeping it real - budgets are tight for all of us, including Council. With various changes and growth happening in our district, we want to keep it simple and make sure the essentials are covered. We're living in a changing environment with further changes ahead in a number of areas, including three waters.

So here's the deal: Our LTP should be all about nailing the basics while fostering our growth and getting ready for opportunities which could come our way. Plus, we're big on reducing and managing waste.

Planning for the next 20 years is a team effort, and we want your two cents. This is just the starting point, and your input is like the secret sauce that'll help cook the right recipe for the future of Horowhenua.

So, speak up and let's make it happen together!

What's a Long Term Plan?

Council’s Long Term Plan is one of our key strategic documents. It sets out the services and projects Council will provide to the Horowhenua community for the next 20 years – what we'll do, how much it will cost and how we'll fund it. This includes services, facilities, wastewater, water supply, roading, rubbish and recycling, as well as our aquatic centres, community centres, and parks and reserves. It’s reviewed every three years to make sure it’s still relevant and accurate. We’re currently undertaking this process.

As part of the LTP, we'll be making decisions on how to invest in facilities and services that will benefit the community most, and what should happen first.

Your early engagement feedback will help Council decide what to propose in the 2024-2044 Long Term Plan and develop a draft budget for the next 20 years.

Feedback on the Long Term Plan 2024-2044 early engagement closed at midnight on Friday, 10 November 2023.

What happens next?

Your feedback will be used to help Council decide what to propose in the 2024-2044 Long Term Plan and develop some draft budgets in the coming months. A summary of all feedback received will be shared with Council.

Early next year we'll share those draft budgets during consultation so you can have a say in shaping our final budget and have your say on the key issues Council has identified for the Long Term Plan.
