Subdivision and Engineering Requirements
The Horowhenua District Council Subdivision and Development Principles and Requirements 2014 sets out the Engineering Requirements for Subdivision and Development. Your subdivision/development must comply with this. This is available below.

Bulk and Location Requirements
(applicable for building or extending a house or garage)
Horowhenua District Council's Bulk and Location Requirements brochure sets out the relevant rules that need to be complied with for new buildings and extensions to existing buildings in the Residential, Greenbelt Residential and Rural zones and outlines the requirements for dwellings, family flats and accessory buildings in the Residential, Greenbelt Residential and Rural Zones. It includes:
- Maximum height of buildings;
- Maximum building coverage and permitted floor areas for accessory buildings;
- Building setback from boundaries; and
- Daylight setback envelope.
The provisions outlined in the brochure are from the Horowhenua District Plan. These provisions can change, so the brochure should only be used as a guide. However the brochure was last checked for accuracy in July 2018.
