Council Services in Alert Level 1

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Monday 8 June that Aotearoa will be moving to COVID-19 Alert Level 1 at midnight, officers are working to re-establish full services across our facilities.

Below is a list of activities and services and how they'll be operating in Alert Level 1.

Service Information
Customer service contact centres Council’s main office has been open from 18 May 2020, but with reduced opening hours. From Wednesday 10 June 2020 opening hours will resume to 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Rubbish and recycling services All kerbside rubbish collections will continue.

Kerbside recycling collection services have resumed, following the normal schedule. To find out when your next collection date is please visit our Check my rubbish and recycling collection date page.  

Transfer stations are open to the public.

Water supply, wastewater and stormwater services These services will continue.
Governance and decision making Council and Committees of Council have resumed meetings in person. Public engagement and participation in council decision making continues to be welcomed and encouraged. The public gallery will be open to all those who wish to attend public meetings.           
Civil defence and emergency management These services will continue.
Parks, reserves, cemeteries, playgrounds and public toilets Public toilets remain open.

Parks, reserves, cemeteries, playgrounds and sportsgrounds are open. Please observe the Alert Level 1 Golden rules.

Mowing and general maintenance continue. Litter bins will continue to be emptied.

Library services Libraries re-opened Monday 18 May, however the opening hours will mostly return to normal on Tuesday 9 June 2020, with the exception of Wednesday 10 June as the facility will be closing at 5.30pm.

Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō will be open:

9am – 5.30pm, Monday Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
10am – 9pm Wednesday
10am – 4pm Saturday
1pm – 4pm Sunday

Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom will be open:

9am – 5pm weekdays
10am to 4pm weekends

Shannon Library was reopened Wednesday 3 June after it was refurbished. It will be open:

10am - 12pm and 1pm – 5pm Monday – Friday
10am – 12pm Saturday

Swimming pools Levin Aquatic Centre was re-opened on Monday 1 June after pool maintenance was complete. The opening hours are:

6am – 9pm Monday – Friday
8am – 6pm Saturday
8am – 5.30pm Sunday

Streamline Swim School, land and aqua based fitness classes have resumed.

Foxton Heated Pools will remain closed for winter until September.
Community centres Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō and Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom are open and will return to normal operating hours from Tuesday 9 June 2020. (See above under Library Services for hours).

Council are working with our café operators at both Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō and Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom to establish when they will resume pre-COVID-19 operating hours.

Youth Space will be re-opening Wednesday 10 June 2020.

Quiz night will resume Wednesday 17 June 2020.

Animal control Animal control will respond to all calls. The dog pound will open to the public by appointment only from Tuesday 9 June 2020.
Planning (resource consents) We're continuing to process resource consents.

Face to face meetings can resume from Tuesday 9 June 2020.

Noise control We're continuing to receive and respond to noise control complaints 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Roading services Routine road maintenance and roading projects have resumed.
Parking From Tuesday 9 June 2020 you can expect to see our friendly Parking Wardens out and about in the community.

Parking infringements will resume being issued from Monday 15 June 2020.
