Horowhenua District Council has closely inspected Levin's water network and has discovered it will be necessary to replace some pipes in some areas. Problems identified include age of pipe, frequent repair and to cater for future development.
Why not just repair the pipes?
Repairs may remove defects for the short-term, but they will not necessarily solve the issues long-term. Based on the significant problems identified and future demand, it is best to completely replace the pipes and laterals.
How will the pipes be replaced?
Council's contractors will use a mix of open trench and direct drilling. The roads will remain open for most of the time during the period. There will be occasions when the road will be restricted to one lane. Council staff and contractors will work with residents and road users to minimise the impacts of the project.
Which areas are affected?
Kennedy Drive and adjacent road intersections.
When will the work take place?
Work will take place from 7am to 5pm on weekdays and occasionally on Saturdays between September 2018 and February 2019. Work will focus on the area between Fairfield Road and Cambridge Street.
Who do I talk to if I have questions or concerns?
