Horowhenua District Council has closely inspected Levin's water network and has discovered it will be necessary to replace some pipes in some areas. Problems identified include age of pipe, frequent repair and to cater for future development.
Why not just repair the pipes?
Repairs may remove defects for the short-term, but they will not necessarily solve the issues long-term. Based on the significant problems identified and future demand, it is best to completely replace the pipes and laterals.
How will the pipes be replaced?
Horowhenua District Council’s Horowhenua Alliance will use a mix of open trench and direct drilling. The roads will remain open for most of the time during the period. There will be occasions when the road will be restricted to one lane. Council and Horowhenua Alliance staff will work with residents and road users to minimise the impacts of the project.
Which areas are affected?
Matipo Street (Bartholomew-Easton Way), Rimu Street (from house No.32 to Martin Harvey Street) and Nikau Street.
When will the work take place?
Work will take place from Mondays to Fridays between 7am and 5pm on weekdays and occasionally on Saturdays between October 2018 and March 2019.
