Mowing of the grass berms, and the majority of the parks and reserves in Shannon, Mangaore and Tokomaru has been temporarily suspended due to saturated ground conditions.
Horowhenua has received substantial rainfall over the last four weeks, causing the ground to become waterlogged in some areas. Our inland towns, which have clay-based soils, are particularly affected.
Council and its contractor, Recreational Services, have suspended mowing services in these towns until conditions improve and the ground dries enough to resume mowing services.
This may see some berms, reserves and grass areas looking a little long until mowing can be resumed. However, this is preferable to vehicles getting bogged down and damaging the grass sward and underlying soil structure.
