Council’s next round of community grants opens soon

Do you need funding for a community programme, project or event? Are you involved in arts or cultural activities that will enable community participation and contribute to our vibrant places?
If you’re a Horowhenua-based not-for-profit or voluntary organisation, get your application in for Council’s next round of contestable Community Grants.
Applications for eight community grants will open on 1 August, and projects for this round cannot begin before November 2022.
Funding awarded varies, but the average grant issued is between $2,000 - $5,000 per application.
Community and Social Services Grant
Open 1 August – 31 August 2022
This grant provides operational funding to not-for-profit community organisations that support and enhance the community through their services.

The Community Development Grant funds local not-for-profit or voluntary organisations for community and social development programmes that support innovative solutions to community driven needs.

The Creative Communities Scheme is a partnership between Council and Creative New Zealand. This fund is open twice a year for those who want to do cool art or cultural focused projects for the Horowhenua community. Unlike the other funds for organisations, individuals can also apply.
Previous funding of art projects have included community murals, theatre productions, music festivals and events, art exhibitions and craft workshops.

This fund is available for the purpose of financially supporting nine Horowhenua (County) Rural Hall Societies with maintenance for the halls they manage.

This fund is available to community organisations to maintain and acquire minor assets.

This grant supports community organisations to deliver one-off events and exhibitive projects that are celebratory, educational or competitive whilst inviting the wider Horowhenua community to engage and participate.

The Horowhenua Waste Minimisation Grant is available to aid the start-up costs of a project that minimises waste in the Horowhenua District by reducing or reusing waste that would otherwise go to a landfill.

The Shannon Community Development Trust provides funding assistance to the residents of the Shannon township for Community Development initiatives that include:
- educational activities, including scholarships for educational purposes
- the provision of training and equipment for the protection of the community
- the provision of financial assistance for events recognising the involvement of community members
- the alleviation of hardship (in some circumstances).
