1. International Representation Grant

The International Representation Grant aims to support Horowhenua residents who have been selected to represent New Zealand at an international competition in sport, leisure or cultural activities.

Applications may be made on an ongoing basis throughout the year (1 July to 30 June) but must be applied for at least one month prior to the event taking place.

2. Horowhenua Events Grant

The Horowhenua Events Grant was created to address the growing need to support grass-roots community activities.

Applications may be made on an ongoing basis throughout the year (1 July to 30 June) but must be applied for at least one month prior to the event taking place (no retrospective funding). In addition, as there is a very limited funding pool available for this grant ($5,000 in total), once all the funds for a financial year have been awarded to the community, there will be no more awarded until the beginning of a new financial period.

3. Vibrant Communities Grant

As an initiative of Council’s Pride and Vibrancy Action Plan, the Vibrant Communities Grant was introduced in 2015 to support projects that build a sense of vibrancy in the Horowhenua District.

Each financial year the Grants and Funding Subcommittee of Council determines the strategic priorities of the fund and how it will be administered at its first meeting of the year (August). The inaugural fund (2016/2017) supported the painting of the fences at Solway Park.

For 2018/2019 the Grants Subcommittee announced that the fund be directed towards Interactive and intergenerational projects.

4. Community Development Fund

The Community Development Grant aims to encourage community groups to organise projects, events and initiatives that work towards Council's Community Wellbeing Strategies and Action Plans. They also should align with Council’s key funding outcomes, namely: Accessibility, Inclusion, Volunteerism, Social Connection; Neighbourliness and Community Resilience. Applications are also considered for selected administrative costs for non-profit organisations that facilitate the provision of community or support services to beneficiaries.

There are two rounds of Community Development Grant Funding each year - $45,000 is allocated to Round 1 (August) and $25,000 is reserved for Round 2 (February) (a total of $70,000 for each financial year).

5. Community Consultation Fund

The Community Consultation Grant fund ($5,000) is available to Resident and Ratepayer Associations or groups within the District that engage in Council processes with assist with some aspects of their communications and administration to facilitate the sharing and distribution of Community information and related administration costs.

6. Creative Communities NZ Scheme

The Horowhenua District Council administers the Creative Communities NZ Scheme on behalf of Creative New Zealand. Creative New Zealand allocates the Horowhenua District approximately $13,500 each round to be dispersed to individuals and organisations for projects that increase participation in (or access to) the Arts.
