2014 Civic Honours Award Recipients

The 2014 Civic Awards Ceremony, held at Te Takere on 25 November 2014 and hosted by Horowhenua District Mayor Brendan Duffy, celebrated and acknowledged the successes of a number of young people, and the significant contribution made by volunteers over many years to our community.

More than 260 people attended the ceremony where 12 young people received Youth Excellence Scholarships, four individuals received Certificates of Recognition, two individuals received Mayoral Certificates, four individuals received a Civic Honour, and three individuals received medals in recognition of 50 years' outstanding community service. All recognitions are in acknowledgement of each person's long and meritorious voluntary service to our community.

Recipients were:

Civic Honours 50 Years of Service Medals:

  • Aileen Jennings - Aileen's commitment and dedication to bring her community together in what was very trying times is a true testament to the person she is. Aileen is very deserving of a 50 Years of Service Medal.  
  • Betty Montford - Betty is described as a dedicated, enthusiastic, passionate and selfless individual. Her contributions to various sectors in our community are admirable. Betty is very worthy of this 50 Years of Service Medal.  
  • Margaret Craddock - Margaret is described as a caring, enthusiastic and passionate individual who always has time for others. For her outstanding contributions to the community, Margaret is very deserving of this 50 Years of Service Medal. 

Civic Honours Award:

  • Christine Warren - Christine has been described as a hardworking, caring and selfless person who puts everyone else's needs first. Christine has made a huge contribution to our community and is a worthy recipient of this Civic Honour recognition.
  • Colin Brown - Colin Brown has made significant contributions to the community and is well deserving of this Civic Honour recognition. 
  • Gloy Deadman - Gloy is described as a passionate, reliable, hardworking individual. For her contribution to the community Gloy is very deserving of this Civic Honour. 
  • Heather Birrell - Heather is described as a kind, hardworking, knowledgeable and selfless individual. Her contribution to our community is outstanding. Heather is very deserving of this Civic Honour recognition. 
  • Rod and Bev Poulton - The Poulton's have been described as enthusiastic, committed and hardworking. For their contribution to the rural community the Poulton's are very deserving of this prestigious Civic Honour. 

Certificates of Recognition:

  • Brian Gilbert - Brian's described as hardworking, enthusiastic and committed. His passion to motivate and encourage both young and old to engage in cycling is infectious. His dedication and contribution to cycling has made him very deserving of recognition. 
  • Colin Honey - Colin is described as a very fine player of the cornet, excellent conductor, skilful educator and highly efficient administrator. For his contributions to the community Colin Honey is very much deserving of this certificate of recognition. 
  • Dianne Spicer - Dianne is described as a reliable and caring person. Her contributions to the Levin Women's Bowling Club make her very deserving of this certificate of recognition. 
  • Dorothy Wenham - Dorothy Wenham, otherwise know as 'Dot', is a name that you regularly hear in our community. She is described as a hardworking, reliable and selfless individual. Dorothy Wenham is very deserving of this certificate of recognition.

Mayoral Certificate:

  • Detlef Klein - Deflef's passion and dedication is evident in MAVtech as we see it today and for his contribution to our community he is very deserving of this Mayoral Certificate.  
  • Dylan Kiriona - Dylan is described as a strong role model, a natural leader and a young man that has gained the respect from his peers and elders. Dylan Kiriona is very deserving of this Mayoral Certificate.
