Foxton Tourist & Development Association
The Foxton Tourist & Development Association (FTDA) is an incorporated society run by a small group of passionate Foxton locals. The goals of FTDA are to promote Foxton as a fabulous place to live and play, through tourism and event initiatives, such as the annual Spring Fling which brings up to 7,000 visitors from far and wide and an annual Quiz Night held in May, in conjunction with Foxton Rotary. The Quiz Night is a fun and entertaining evening which brings young, old, business and townsfolk together in teams to test their general knowledge, with the winning team taking home the Quiz Night Trophy. 'FTDA After 5pm'ish' Networking Sessions
The Foxton Tourist & Development Association (FTDA) runs a popular business/tourism networking forum from March to November, which gives locals the opportunity to meet, network and collaborate, and hear about new initiatives for the town. New members are always welcome to join these networking sessions. In addition, the Association works closely with the Horowhenua District Council, the Foxton Community Board and other interested groups to enhance and promote fabulous Foxton and Foxton Beach as the perfect Horowhenua location.
FTDA Monthly Update - November 2017
The last FTDA After 5pm'ish event for the year has been held, and for the first time not at a business interest, but at the home of Cherie & Martin Johansson. They do not have a business but rather they are committed to seeing Foxton's business and tourism thrive and benefit the District. Eighteen people enjoyed a BBQ with delicious home-killed beef sausages and burgers.
Cherie and Martin formerly lived in the South Island before returning to a family property on the edge of town. Looking after a 10 acre lifestyle block with a variety of animals has been a challenge with Cherie becoming a marriage and funeral celebrant among other things .... not enough hours in the day. As a couple they have attended many of the previous After 5 events and find it a great way of meeting people and becoming part of community.
The $50 door entry prize was won by Patricia Metcalf, a Foxton Community Board Member. Next year's After 5 venues are already in place, such is the popularity.
