Parks & Reserves
Welcome to the Horowhenua District's Parks & Reserves page.
There are more than 80 reserves in the Horowhenua District with many purposes to fulfil community needs.
Purpose of Facilities
The purpose of these facilities is:
- To provide space for people to pursue active and passive recreational activities for their social, spiritual, mental and physical well-being
- To provide the landscape setting for the towns.
- To ensure the protection and maintenance of history (ecological and human) and character of the area, including the protection of bush areas, beaches, estuaries, wildlife habitats, wahi tapu and historic sites.\
- To ensure that those environments that are essential to the existence of plant and animal species (including humans) are maintained.
- To protect public access to significant landscape features and recreation areas.
Parks and Reserves With Play Equipment
The District's parks and reserves with children's play equipment are as follows:
- Stuart Donnelly Park, Avenue Road, Foxton
- Holben Parade Reserve, Holben Parade, Foxton Beach
- Gladys Taylor Park, Queen Street, Levin (outside the Horowhenua Aquatic Centre)
- Jubilee Park, Bath Street, Levin
- Muaupoko Park, Lake Horowhenua Domain, Queen Street, Levin
- Solway Park, Solway Street, Levin
- Weraroa Reserve, Oxford Street, Levin Vincent Drive, Levin
- Maire Street Reserve, Maire Street, Levin
- Hokio Beach, Tawhiti Street, Levin
- Hyde Park, Whittaker/Grey Streets,
- Shannon Rua Avenue Domain,
- Rua Avenue, Waitarere Beach
- Holmwood Park, Park Avenue,
- Waitarere Beach Waitarere Beach Domain, Waitarere Beach Road, Waitarere
Adventure Park
The Adventure Park in Oxford Street, Levin is run by a Trust and its aim is for all activities to remain free of charge. On site there are public toilets, disability swings, a dog exercise area, pre-school playground, confidence course, flying fox, and many more activities. A kiosk which provides electric jugs, microwaves, tables and chairs is available to the public free of charge.
Skate Parks
Skate Parks can be found on the Village Green in Salisbury Street, Levin, and also in Shannon Domain in Shannon. There are smaller facilities at Kennedy Park, in Kennedy Drive, Levin, Holben Parade at Foxton Beach, and Waitarere Beach.
