Youth Voice

Youth Voice is a group of representatives from around the Horowhenua District that have been selected to represent youth aged 13-19 that are still at school, working, or living within the district. They hold events throughout the year for youth to participate in.

Applications Open for Youth Voice 2012
Youth Voice 2012 applications are now open! If you are between 13-19, live in the Horowhenua District and are passionate about youth and your community then apply to be on the Youth Voice Council. It’s a great opportunity to get your voice heard and be able to make a difference. Applications close on Monday, 13 February 2012.

2011 Youth Voice Representatives
The 2011 Youth Voice Representatives are listed below.
Age: 17
Manawatu College, Head Student 2011, Under 19 Club Captain at Foxton Surf Club
Interests: basketball, surf club, organising school ball
Why I joined Youth Voice: I would love to have the whole of the Horowhenua involved with supporting and encouraging our Youth.
Age: 17
School/Roles: Manawatu College, Equestrian team Captain at Manawatu College
Interests: Equestrian riding, kung fu and music (play piano, bass and vocals).
Why I joined Youth Voice: to create more opportunities and provide positive
role models for the youth in the Horowhenua area.
Age: 15
School/Roles: Horowhenua College, Winner of gold at canoe polo nationals 3 years
running.
Interests: Canoe polo, rugby, rowing, Kung Fu, reading.
Why I joined Youth Voice: to make the Horowhenua community more fun for youth.
Age: 17
School/Roles: Horowhenua College, Prefect for Horowhenua College –International Prefect.
Interests: Directing stage challenge for Horowhenua College 2011 – interests
drama, singing, and playing Football.
Why I joined Youth Voice: One thing I would like to achieve with Youth Voice is
to create as many fun and safe activities for the youth as possible and also help
create more young leaders within the Horowhenua in the process of those activities.

School/Roles: Waiopehu College Interests: Reading, Music and poetry.
Why I joined Youth Voice: To give back to the youth of the community by putting on run events.
Age: 14
School/Roles: Manawatu College, Senior A netballer and attended Spirit of
Adventure 2011
Interests: I LOVE to dance, sing, play all sports e.g. Netball, Basketball, Rugby.
I love watching Rugby and netball (Professionals) but all sports are cool. I also like meeting new people and learning new things.
Why I joined Youth Voice: I’d like to get more involved with the community and events and like to put in as much as possible into the Council, and what the youth should have a say in.
Age: 16
School: Waiopehu College
Interests: Dancing, music and Singstar.
Why I joined Youth Voice: I would like to improve my self confidence and pass on these skills to other youth of the Horowhenua.
Age: 15
School & Roles: Manawatu College - Peer support, Young Leaders, Co-Captain of Senior A Netball team, Assistant Coach of Coley Street Schools Senior A etball, Dance Choreographer/Teacher.
Interests: Dance, drums, playing or making music, performing arts e.g. concerts or showcases, sports – any physical activity. Art, hands on work and socialising.
Why I joined Youth Voice: To get my confidence up with leadership roles and learn to have a voice. Voice my ideas for Youth activities etc and help motivate people to make better choices.
Age: 15
School: Manawatu College
Interests: I like hanging with my friends.
Why I joined Youth Voice: Become a leader so people can look up to me and have fun. Also to meet new people.
Age: 17
School/Roles: Waiopehu College. Member of ‘Delayed’ Band which won Pasifika
Rockquest 2010.
Interests: Singing, sports and praising god.
Why I joined Youth Voice: To help provide activities for youth.
Age: 16
School/Roles: Horowhenua College. Year 12 student rep.
Interests: Maori, kapahaka, Taiaha, rowing.
Why I joined Youth Voice: To help bring manaakitanga back to our youth.
Age: 20
School/Roles: Youth in employment, Coach of Waiopehu College U15 Rugby Team.
Interests: Hanging out with Mates and playing Rugby for Athletic. Attending Church with my family.
Why I joined Youth Voice: Providing and encouraging the Youth to participate and
enjoy all our events we put on.
Age: 16
School/Roles: Executive School Council Treasurer. Excellence Level 1 and 2 NCEA.
Interests: To empower young people to have a voice and to be involved with the community.
Age: 17
School/Roles: Waiopehu College
Interests: Sports and dancing but mostly netball.
Why I joined Youth Voice: to create more fun and safe events that the youth of
Horowhenua can come and enjoy.
