Positive Ageing

In June 2010 Horowhenua District Council adopted the Horowhenua Positive Ageing Strategy 2010 – 2013.

This strategy recognises the need to ensure we are celebrating the contribution older people make to our community, and provides strategic goals to ensure we are responding to the needs of our ageing population also.

Age on the Go Expo

1 October marks the International Day of the Older Person. The Horowhenua Positive Ageing Strategy 2010 – 2013 marks a commitment to celebrating this day each year.

On 1 October 2010 Horowhenua District Council, in partnership with Age Concern Horowhenua, hosted an Age on the Go Expo. This gave an opportunity for older people in and outside of the Horowhenua as well as their families to come and view the range of services, facilities and opportunities available to them in the Horowhenua. In conjunction with the expo Horowhenua was able to mark the National car-fit launch. This programme, which will soon be running nationwide, provides an opportunity for older people to be assessed as to how well they are fitted in their car.  This was a very successful event, and plans are already underway for the 2011 expo.
