Horowhenua Community Wellbeing

Issue 14, September 2011

Good Afternoon Everyone

We have had a busy month since we last sent out this newsletter. Spring is upon us, and so is Rugby World Cup fever; this, coupled with some exciting local and national projects, gives me huge confidence in the positive changes we are making for our community.

Our next Community Wellbeing Executive meeting is to be held on Tuesday, 4 October 2011 at 3pm in the Horowhenua District Council Chambers. All are welcome to attend. For minutes of our last Community Wellbeing Executive meeting please refer to our Agendas and Minutes page.  The Executive is working on some very exciting projects at the moment and has a number of planned workshops prior to the next meeting to further put in place elements of the Social Development Strategy as adopted in May of this year.

We have not hosted a Community Wellbeing Forum since July. Our next Forum will be on Friday 11 November from 1pm - 3pm in the Horowhenua District Council Chambers. This is an opportunity for us to celebrate what as a community we have achieved this year, update our stakeholders on the projects the Community Wellbeing Executive has been a part of, and get some insight into national projects working in our patch. Invitations to this will be sent out shortly, but mark it in your calendar now.

Community Services Directory

Horowhenua District Council annually updates the Community Services Directory. The Community Services Directory is both an online or hardcopy tool that allows you to identify who does what in our community and how to contact them. We are now beginning the process of updating this directory, but have decided to also take the opportunity to undergo a district wide survey of organisations and committees working in our community. You should have all by now updated your information and sent it back to Colette – if not please make sure it is done by Friday, 23 September 2011. Once we have the directory updated a survey will be sent out – this will assist Council in planning for the future to ascertain how well these organisations are supported, and how we can ensure our planning reflects our community‟s needs. So watch this space for updates on what we learnt from the survey.
