Crime Prevention Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in Levin CBD

Levin residents and visitors to our town can move around the Central Business District (CBD) with relative safety, either day or night, thanks to the Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) crime prevention camera network operating.

This programme is an initiative of Levin Police and the Horowhenua District Council and commenced operation in 2004.  Ten CCTV cameras now operate, funded and maintained by the Levin Crime Prevention Camera Trust which is made up of Councillors, Police representatives and public members.

Volunteers support police personnel in the monitoring of the CCTV network from the Levin Police Station watch house and alert officers if needed.  Live video recordings of the entire CCTV network are retained only if needed for evidential purposes.

Signage indicates the location of the ten cameras in Oxford, Queen and Cambridge Streets.

The Trust welcomes any funding towards the maintenance and upgrading/replacement of cameras and ancillary equipment and enquiries can be made to the Secretary, Levin Crime Prevention Camera Trust, c/- Private Bag 4002, Levin 5540.
