Council Moves Forward for Positive Progress

The outcome of a Strategic Planning and Policy Committee into a Code of Conduct complaint has resolved that no further investigation is warranted.

At a meeting of the committee on Tuesday, 1 April 2008, it was determined that the matter was now historical, there had been no financial loss to Council, there was no desire to see costs being incurred by any party to the matter; and pursuing the matter was not conducive to positive Council progress.

Mayor Brendan Duffy moved a resolution observing the issue of Council Integrity whereby it was imperative for all elected members individually and collectively to demonstrate the integrity of Council to the community.

In doing so, elected members must ensure that they observe legislation which dictates the manner by which they act under HDC's Standing Orders, Code of Conduct, Bylaws, and Policies.

"The resolution adopted by Council clearly states Councillors obligations and it is the responsibility of all Councillors to respect the protocols and appreciate that our community expects us to deliver quality decisions made with the best interests of the greatest number of people in our community," Mr Duffy said.

"This concludes the process and warrants no further discussion."
