Rates Rebate: Are You Eligible?

It’s not too late for low-income ratepayers to apply for a 2007/2008 rates rebate.

About 2,300 Horowhenua residents were granted a rates rebate in the 2006/2007 year.

When applying for a rates rebate, you will be asked to supply supporting evidence in the form of:

• Proof of your income from the Inland Revenue Department or Work and Income
  New Zealand
• Your rates invoice
• Proof of your partner / joint homeowner’s income
• Details of any gross interest or dividends you have received
• Your metered water charges should be added to your rates to show your total
  rating commitment

You are eligible for a rates rebate if:

• You pay rates on the address where you live
• You were living at the address at the beginning of the rating year (1 July 2007)
• Your name is on the rates bill.

You have until 30 June 2008 to apply for a rebate and if granted, it will show as a credit against your next instalment of rates. Rates rebates are awarded on a sliding scale, and the table below estimates the rebate you may receive, depending on your income and rates. The rates shown in the table are the sum total of your Horowhenua, Horizons and water accounts.
