Foxton Beach Coastal Reserves Draft Management Plan
A community workshop was held at Foxton Beach in the Senior Citizens Hall on Saturday, 19 April, as part of the process to prepare the draft management plan. The two-hour workshop, which local residents, holiday homeowners and regular visitors were encouraged to attend, was chaired by Foxton Community Board president Basil Vertongen.
The approximately 50 participants discussed key aspects to do with the long-term management and development of the area. These included development of the lands, establishing a good cover of native sand-binding vegetation on dunes, protecting foredune vegetation, a safer environment in front of the carpark and surf club as well as on dunes, developing and managing safe accessways to the beach for vehicles and pedestrians, an off-road recreational vehicle area, and a coastal park on the former land fill with trails, information and viewpoints.
The draft plan is now being finalised and will be released for public submissions.
