Further Information Relating to Shannon and Tokomaru Precautionary Boil Water Notice

Friday, 22 January 2010

The new Drinking Water Standards require that Horowhenua District Council takes precautions whenever the water turbidity (dirtiness) exceeds the limits specified.

Given the frequency of the levels exceeding limits at Shannon, Council considers there is little value in uplifting the notice as it will inevitably have to re-notify within a matter of days.  There is a significant cost involved in organising notification and the uplifting of a boil water notice and it is this Council is trying to avoid.

Council plans to upgrade this supply as soon as we are able, but this project has been delayed following the Government putting the Subsidy Scheme on hold while they conduct a review. The Review is due for completion around March 2010.
