Amendments to the Building Act
Thursday, 04 February 2010
The Building Act has been amended so that persons applying for a building consent no longer have to apply for a Project Information Memorandum (PIM) when lodging the application although the option will still remain available. The changes affect building consent applications received after 31 January 2010.
A PIM provides an applicant with useful background information relating to a proposed building but not necessarily covered by the Building Act, such as potential hazards known to relate to the property, whether a Resource Consent is required or the heritage status of existing buildings if any. Persons likely to be involved in major building work, including extensions, are encouraged to still apply for a PIM when lodging their Building Consent applications.
