September 2009

Elderberries Issue 1, September 2009Welcome to the first edition of Elderberries magazine, which is aimed at 50-plus Horowhenua residents, their various clubs and support groups.

Horowhenua has more than 40 support groups for the older age group, with many publishing their own newsletters to keep members informed of activities, meetings and events.  In an effort to help these groups stay in touch and to highlight them and their different interests, the Horowhenua District Council proposed to publish Elderberries, a bi-monthly magazine.

Elderberries will contain human interest stories, news and group listings, and be funded by the Council and other organisations that want to be involved.

The Council’s Positive Ageing Strategy includes better communication with the District’s older residents, with a focus on programmes for the 50-plus generation to participate in.

Elderberries will draw on contributions from groups and present the information in one quality magazine free to subscribers. Sponsors and advertisers can contact Vicki Ph: 06 367 9627, cellphone 021 588 667. If you know of someone, or a group with a good tale to tell, contact Colleen Ervine, colleene@ horowhenua.govt.nz Ph: 06 366 0999.

Copies of the magazine will be posted to subscribers. Elderberries is also available in the Council’s service centres, libraries and here on our website.
