Community Connection 12 December 2009Well, it’s the final edition of Community Connection for the year. I hope you have all enjoyed the publication and the effort put in by all concerned to better communicate with the residents and ratepayers of Horowhenua.

There has been a large number of activities occurring in the District, more so as the end of year draws closer.

We have a new Deputy Mayor in Barry Judd. Barry recognises the challenges we face as a Council and is keen to work through these.

The Civic Honours Awards ceremony to recognise our volunteers was a wonderful occasion and one of the highlights of my year. This is where we praise our volunteers who in most cases diligently carry on their work behind the scenes without thought for recognition or praise.

Summer is a great time to be in Horowhenua. We have our key events in January with the Horowhenua AP & I Show held at Wellington Anniversary Weekend and the Organic River Festival the following weekend. These are only two of the many events in the District running through to April.

I hope you have a relaxing time this Christmas holiday break and take the opportunity to recharge your batteries because 2010 will bring its own challenges but will also be very rewarding for us as a community.

On behalf of my wife Sheryl, and myself, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year.

Cheers,
Brendan.
