Community Connection 14 November 2009Well, we only have six weeks left till Christmas and it seems we have only just had the last one. It’s been a busy year.

We are coming up to the Levin Christmas Parade in two weeks, followed by the Foxton and Shannon celebrations. These festivals leading up to Christmas are a great opportunity for communities to get together and reconnect before the holiday break.

A lot of projects have been completed around the District. Read about the hanging baskets in Shannon and a new playground at the Foxton river loop.

Another draft of the Horowhenua Education Strategy will be unveiled later this week and applications for the two Council scholarships for eligible students studying specific subjects close at the end of the week.

The Council’s modern pensioner village has won an award and a community garden near another set of Council’s pensioner units is helping to build relationships.

Spending time nurturing relationships is a valuable way to connect and it can certainly beat spending money.

Cheers,
Mayor Brendan Duffy
