FACILITIES PARKS & RESERVES
Welcome to the Horowhenua District's Parks & Reserves. The purpose of our parks are:

To provide space for people to pursue active and passive recreational activities for their social, spiritual, mental and physical well-being.

To provide the landscape setting for the towns.

To ensure the protection and maintenance of history (ecological and human) and character of the area, including the protection of bush areas, beaches, estuaries, wildlife habitats, wahi tapu and historic sites.

To ensure that those environments that are essential to the existence of plant and animal species (including humans) are maintained.

To protect public access to significant landscape features and recreation areas.
The Horowhenua District Council has 88 "reserve" areas, of which 83 have full reserve status.
