Kia ora and welcome to the website of the District that has the Best Rural Lifestyle in New Zealand!

Horowhenua is a district with a rich history evolving from its Maori culture, colonial settlers and abundant agricultural and horticultural development.  There are also manufacturing and agricultural businesses that continue to produce in the face of overseas competition - a credit to their tenacity and hard work.

Our district is well placed within commuting distance of Wellington and Palmerston North, making it an excellent place to do business.

The people of this district have established many groups that support the culture and lifestyle of this close knit community of around 30,000 inhabitants.  The creativeness can be seen through artistic events, performances and displays, showing the quality and high standards that abound.

Tourism related activities continue to develop for all age groups and for those energetic folk there are plenty of areas to walk, cycle and tramp, discovering the amazing landscape of the Horowhenua that has become known as the "Nature Coast".

Nestled between the Tararua Ranges and the sea, we enjoy a lifestyle that draws many to choose the Horowhenua to work, live, play and stay in - those who take the time to go out and discover will find a unique experience.
