Wastewater Bylaw 2015

Horowhenua District Council's Wastewater Bylaw 2015 was adopted by Council on 5 August 2015 and came into effect from 6 August 2015.

This Bylaw regulates the discharge of wastewater into the wastewater system, except for discharges of trade waste which are subject to the Trade Waste Bylaw, and works which may be carried out on behalf of property owners on or near the wastewater system.

Purpose of the Bylaw

The purpose of this Bylaw is to:

  • provide a safe and efficient wastewater system
  • protect the wastewater system from damage, misuse and interference
  • protect the environment and the health and safety of persons from adverse effects of harmful substances discharged to the wastewater system
  • ensure that private drains operate in an acceptable way.
