The Ōtaki to north of Levin project will accommodate expected future traffic volumes and support the growth of our communities. An independent economic impact report anticipates the new expressway to Wellington will generate 3,000 new jobs and 4,900 new homes in Horowhenua.

The expressway will form part of the Wellington Northern Corridor and is a Roads of National Significance project.

NZTA's first consultation round open

The first of two rounds of consultation to determine the location of the expressway, interchanges, cycle and walking pathways and much more is now underway.

Everyone in our District needs to have a say on this project to help ensure it meets our needs today and into the future. Council has committed to working with NZTA throughout this process.

Talk with an NZTA Officer

Every Thursday during June you can visit the Horowhenua District Council office to talk with a NZTA Officer about your ideas and concerns or if you just want to know more.

Second round of consultation scheduled

A second round of consultation will take place later in 2017.

NZTA will use your feedback alongside technical information to come back to talk to the community again. During this second round of consultation, NZTA expects it will have a better idea of where the alignment of the expressway may be.

NZTA will make a recommendation to its Board early next year – The alignment is not considered a preferred option until the Board has endorsed it.
