Walking and Cycling Strategy

Horowhenua District Council adopted a Walking and Cycling Strategy on 4 March 2009.  Its implementation will enable the enhancement of recreation activities in the area.

The vision of the strategy is to create opportunities in the District where people from all sectors of the community walk and cycle in safety for transport and enjoyment.  Walking groups and residents who walk for transport make up a small but ever increasing group and the strategy has identified walkway linkages either to be created or readily available in each township and within the District.

Levin Domain still has a velodrome which is still used to train competitive cyclists and the District has produced many residents who have achieved on the national stage and international stage.

Implementation of projects such as footpaths and cycle ways are identified in the strategy and funded through the Council's ten year plan process.
