Volunteering

Volunteering has always played a vital role within the non-profit sector. Volunteers are invaluable in helping community organisations to strengthen their services - they bring new and creative ideas, special skills and a genuine concern for the beneficiaries of the organisations which they serve.

Horowhenu District Council acknowledge the considerable contribution volunteers provide our region. Council recognise that volunteers constitute a significant capacity building resource and seek to promote and support the value of Volunteering within our Community. Each year, Council hosts the Annual Civic Honours Awards and celebrates individuals and organisations within Horowhenua who have made outstanding contributions to our community through their dedicated community service.

As part of Council's commitment to the promotion of volunteering, they have partnered with Volunteer Resource Centre Manawatu & Districts and have opened a local branch which is located within Te Takere. The Volunteer Resource Centre serves to facilitate volunteering partnerships. It links committed individuals who have indicated a willingness to serve and community organisations who have identified areas of need where they could benefit from the support volunteers can provide.
